In this new creative adventure, María Pagés and El Arbi El Harti, accompanied by eleven dancers, two vocalists and five musicians, examine hope and the unsettling shadows that time casts upon them.

Kronos is an allegory for the time we live in, breathe, see and observe, feel, hear, inhale and exhale. A time with all the opportunities it offers for happiness, utopias, and Humanity’s unmistakable ability to surmount all barriers and obstacles.

Kronos examines how our demanding daily life influences art, in this case, dance. It highlights how dance expresses itself – or fails to express itself – in relation to a reality that resembles a violent and deaf agony, whose dense liquidity subjugates individuals and societies, and, above all, the Eros we have always known to be mischievous, joyful, creative and powerful, like life itself.

Dancing from awareness, María Pagés and El Arbi El Harti explore the flamenco tradition as an integral part of universal culture. Their journey takes them through the territories of Cervantes, Plato, Baudrillard, Homer, Sophocles, Goya, Unamuno, Picasso, and Ibn Arabí, writers whose works transcend traditional flamenco dramaturgy. The rhythm and measure of Kronos reflect the changing and polymorphous condition of flamenco dance, vital as life itself, and mindful of existence as a dialectic expression of beauty and ugliness, heaven and earth, good and evil, paradise and hell.

The choreographic sequences are contemplative and interrogatory, yet also swift, sharp, and disturbing; appearing and disappearing in the manner of a slide projector. Each image is unique and unrepeatable and the only way to experience it is to catch it on the fly and take it to bed with you. Kronos’s theatrical journey seeks to positively reverse the constant tension between individual and community, the circle and the straight line, argument and spurious reasoning, the concrete and the abstract, silence and percussion - the very foundation of life and the eternal dialogue between the moment and memory, the constant and the ephemeral.
